Rara Lake Trekking

Nothing can match the beauty of Rara lake and its pristine surrounding with super views of snowcapped peaks, a fascinating and enjoyable short of more than a week duration where least visited by other foreign trekkers.

Rara Lake at 2,980 m largest natural lake of Nepal within Rara National Park covering small area of 106 sq.k.m.

Located in Jumla and Mugu districts of Far North West Nepal, where one can explore classic Nepalese culture of Thakuri / Malla the oldest tribe of Nepal where the ‘Khas’ (Nepali) language originated.

Starting this wonderful adventure to Rara Lake treks with a flight to Nepalgunj city located Nepal Far South West around sub-tropical area and then taking another short flight to Jumla headquarter town of Jumla region.

Walk leads to Botan and ancient Sinja village via unnamed pass at 3,500 m Rara Lake, with extra free day to explore this beautiful area surrounded with pristine forest of rhododendron, pines, oaks, firs with views of snowcapped peaks.

After a great moment Nepal largest Rara lake journey back to Jumla via Pina and high pass of Ghurchi Lagna pass at above 3,460 m into enchanting alpine forest and finally ending this fabulous walk at Jumla town for the flight back to Kathmandu via Nepalgunj city, after a pleasant and remarkable Rara Lake trek.


On arrival in Kathmandu received by our staff and representative for a short drive to respective hotels in Kathmandu city, after refreshment our guide will brief regarding Upper Mustang trek, hotels, lodge and necessary information required while you are with us in Nepal with welcome dinner.

Morning interesting sightseeing tour Kathmandu valley steeped with culture, historical monuments of temples, monasteries and stupas listed as World Heritage Sites, afternoon transfer to Kathmandu domestic airport for sweeping 50 mins flight to Nepalgunj around Far South West Nepal, with views of snowcapped peaks during flight to Nepalgunj. At Nepalgunj airport transfer to hotel close to city and airport area for another short flight to Jumla.

Morning transfer to Nepalgunj airport for Jumla flight with super views of mountains of Far North West Himalaya range, landing at Jumla received by our trekking guide and staff.

Jumla an administrative town of Western Nepal, at present a jeep dirt road been constructed connecting with Nepalgunj and beyond.

First day walk on a gradual trail with few short up to Charya Chaur village for overnight stop a nice farm village.

After a first overnight in Jumla area, journey begins with a climb through rhododendron, birch and pine tree forest, then heading towards an unnamed green large field on a ridge called Jaljala with fantastic views of Kanjiroba Himal. Walk continues on downhill path for few hours to reach a summer pasture overnight stop and camping.

From this serene and peaceful spot, walk downhill to Sinja for few hours following Jaljala Khola (stream) downstream through forest of pines trees, walk past terraced farm fields to reach Sinja village.

Here observe the old ruin temple, monuments and ancient sculptured stones covered in moss and weeds, walk follows a river upstream, reaching at Ganja village where our route leads through an impressive gorge to overnight stop at Botan village.

Morning walk of few hours after Sinja Khola following another stream of Ghatte Khola towards North- Eastwards with short uphill climb, then to a lovely small valley with farmlands and primitive water mills for grinding corns, wheat’s into fine flour to make breads.

From here walk leads to our overnight stop on the border rim of Rara National Park, a small village of Ghorasain.

Walk today leads to our highlight and destination at Rara Lake, morning walk around serene environment with uphill climb all the way to Chuchemara Danda at 4, 260 meters, on reaching top ridge with panorama of surrounding landscapes and views of mountains, from here descend to Rara Lake shore through forest of bamboo and birch trees and then check into a nice simple lodge.

After week of continues scenic walk, a rest day at Rara to explore and relax, walk around the lake shore or climb a wooden tower for views of this picturesque lake with surrounding beautiful scenery.

Journey back to Jumla heading another route with moderate trek on a path leading to a ridge top at Jhyari, a small village from here walk follows Jhyari Bira Khola downstream for a short time then crossing Dhauligar Khola valley.

From here walk to overnight stop at Pina a small farm village with simple lodge for travelers.

From this Morning walk continues with climb into forest offering grand views of landscapes and mountains towards north, then a slow climb to reach Ghurchi- Lagna pass, highest point of this journey.

From here our route descend across alpine pastures, into walnut groves and then leading to a steep and narrow valley all the way to Chauta village for overnight, this small place with shops and houses serving as lodge for local and individual travelers and trekkers.

After a nice stop in this village of Chauta, walk follows Sinja khola through Bumra and past small lodge and tea-shops with health clinic walking under overhanging rock at Kamra, a source of an important herbal medicinal mineral called as Silaji.

From here downhill walk towards Sinja Khola, reaching at Nyawre village, after a nice break, walk continues following a river with a climb to Tharamara for overnight stop.

Last day trek of this marvelous journey as the walk leads back to Jumla, morning starts with down-hill to a nice green valley and into forest of rhododendron, oaks and pines trees, reaching a nice tended valley and then reaching at Padmara following the same river most of the way to Jumla for last overnight stop.

Morning a short flight to Nepalgunj, and then board in connecting flight back to Kathmandu then check into respective hotels.

A reserve day in Kathmandu as contingency, in case of flight delay and cancellation due to bad weather at Jumla, happen sometimes, as Himalayan weather can be unpredictable.

If all goes well as per the itinerary day, a free day with optional sightseeing tour around Kathmandu-Patan and Bhaktapur.

After an enjoyable and fabulous time in Nepal with Rara Lake trek, as per your international flight time our staff transfer you to airport for your final departure for homeward bound or next port of call.
