A scenic short adventure to Langtang Valley & Holy Gosainkund trek around Central Himalayan, just North of Kathmandu in the backdrop of massive Ganesh-Langtang and Jugal Himal mountain range.
This wonderful trekking an ideal adventure holiday of moderate to adventurous walks with constant views of snowcapped mountains with never a dull moment, suitable for all types of people with less chances of getting AMS (Acute Mountain Sickness) with enough acclimatization days before heading higher altitude to Gosainkund Lake at 4,380 m.
On this beautiful Langtang valley & Holy Gosainkund, where you observe ancient Buddhist and Bon culture, custom of Tamang ethnic tribe in the harmony of pristine mountainscape, as the walk leads through enchanting alpine forest of rhododendron, magnolia, firs and pine trees where elusive Red Panda dwells.
This fabulous Langtang Valley & Holy Gosainkund trek starts with an overland drive towards Langtang area in Rasuwa district, within Langtang National Park the nearest park from Kathmandu.
This area extends 32 km (aerial distance) north of Kathmandu around Nepal – China (Tibet) border.
Langtang Valley & Holy Gosainkund trek offers wide spectrum of vegetation type from subtropical forest (below 1000 m), temperate oak and pine forests at mid-elevation, with alpine scrub and grasses giving way to bare rocks and snow, oaks, chir pine, maple, fir, blue pine, hemlock, spruce and various species of rhododendron make up the main forest species.
Culturally a mixed area of mostly habited by Tamang ethnic groups and few Hyalmo of Helambu region, with strong Tibetan Buddhist culture which have influenced the natural environment over the centuries.
Around Langtang valley at Kyanjin Gompa with panorama of mountains from Ganesh Himal (7,405 m) Langtang Lirung (7,234 m) Ghengu Liru (Langtang II – 6571m), Kimshun (6,745m) and Shalbachum (6,918m) to the south Chimsedang Lekh forms a ridge of peaks which includes Naya-Kanga (5,846m) and Gangchempo, Tilman’s beautiful Fluted Peak, extends beyond towards Jugal Himal, terminating in Dorje Lakpa (6,980m/22,929ft).
To the east the upper meadows of the Langtang end in a massive mountain wall, forming the frontier with Tibet.
From here our adventure leads towards holy Gosainkund Lake at 4,381 meters high a sacred area for both Hindu and Buddhist religions and then heading back to Kathmandu from Dhunche town.
On arrival in Kathmandu received by our staff and representative for a short drive to respective hotels in Kathmandu city, after refreshment our guide will brief regarding Langtang Valley & Holy Gosainkund trekking, hotels, lodge and necessary information required while you are with us in Nepal with welcome dinner.
Morning depart from the hotel for interesting sightseeing tour Kathmandu valley steeped with culture, historical monuments of temples, monasteries and stupas listed as World Heritage Sites, afternoon free preparation for Langtang Valley & Holy Gosainkund trek.
Morning an overland drive leading north of Kathmandu to reach Syabrubesi, passing towns and farm villages to Trisuli Bazaar with sub-tropical climate, from Trisuli Bazaar drive further climbs leaving warmer low region to cooler area, as the weather and culture changes.
On reaching Dhunche at 1,965m, a major town of Langtang area and Rasuwa district and the entrance of Langtang National Park. Drive continues downhill for two hours to Syabrubesi village for overnight stop.
Our first day walk from Syabrubesi leads uphill for a while but the rest of the walk is on gradual and winding trail through terraced farms and villages, as the trail descend to join a path of upper Syabru near Riverside.
From here another hour walks into dense forest to reach a small clearing at Lama Hotel for overnight stop.
From Lama Hotel morning walk leads into a river gorge following Trisuli River upstream, leading to a climb into rhododendron and oaks forest after few hours walk, arriving at Ghoretabla in the middle of the forest, after a pleasant stop walk continues for another few hours to Langtang village through forest and crossing streams and leaving tree line behind.
Walk gets better with few ups and down till Langtang Village is reached for overnight stop.
From Langtang village of Tamang and Bhotias tribe, morning walk leads on gradual path for a short while, then winds up for few hours encountering “mani-prayer wall” where walking clockwise direction is the right way, walk leads further east as the gorge opens up into a splendid valley with meadow and views of snow capped peaks at close distance.
After a good walk of 4 hours reaching at Kyanjin Gompa, a beautiful place with panorama of mountains and the closest peak Langtang Lirung at above 7,000m with icefall, here check in a nice cozy lodge, afternoon a leisure walk to a cheese factory established 20 years back by Swiss Technical and local support.
A rest day to enjoy and marvel the super views, an ideal spot for leisure hike to nearby hill Kyanjin Ri at 4,700m high or Tsego Ri which over 4,600 m this add more heights on this adventure with fabulous views of snowcapped peaks, visit the cheese factory closeby.
Morning catching last view of this wonderful surrounding and high snow capped mountains in amazing Langtang valley, then heading downhill for another adventure on route Kathmandu, walk leads to Lama Hotel after a long descend with few short ups in between the walks.
From Lama Hotel our journey leads to alternative route towards Upper Syabru also called as Thulo Syabru, morning walk a short downhill to Riverside and Bamboo area with small lodge, teahouses in the middles of rhododendron, oaks and bamboo forests, after short rest here walk continues leading uphill to the ridge of Upper Syabru passing few farm lands and a big landslide section and then to Thulo Syabru village where the traditional Tamang houses are linked together like a long locomotive with beautiful carved windows and doors, this village with 6-8 good lodges and a monastery above the village.
After this nice village walk leads to more climb through enchanting dense forest of lovely rhododendron, oaks and pine trees with views of Langtang and Ganesh Himal and as far towards west peaks of Manaslu and Annapurna Himalaya, although a steep climb but interesting walking into this beautiful forest where more than 10 varieties of rhododendron species exists around this thick woodlands, passing summer pasture and shades of cattle herders and then on the pleasant winding trail to Singh Gomba / Chandanbari village with cheese factory and an old monastery at the top of the village.
The trek today offers more spectacular views of an array of snow peak range of Langtang to the north and Ganesh-Himal range north west along with Manaslu and Annapurna range due west, the walk is gradual up in the beginning for an hour as you enter the woodland of oaks, pines and rhododendron after being in the cool shade of the forest, comes to a clearing where one or two houses teahouses are located, after a brief stop here with excellent view of the Langtang range, the trail continues uphill leaving the tree lines and lush vegetation behind for dwarf rhododendron, juniper and alpine shrubs bushes.
The path unwinds uphill passing through few teahouses at Laurabina, with more views of the north western Himalayan range, after the place of Laurabina, Hindu pilgrims comes for ritual bath at Gosainkund pond, believing it delivers path to paradise and drink of its holy water relinquishes the sins of a hundred lifetimes, the Hindu pilgrims comes here to change their holy thread also, after the top trail descents for half an hour reaching a first pond Saraswati and to Bhiarav kund, after a short climb brings to overnight stop at Gosainkund.
A most holy and popular pilgrimage place for hundreds of years where thousands of Hindu pilgrims, as well Buddhist and Shaman (Witch Doctors) visits here on festival held around “Jani Purnima” in the month of August as per the Hindu / Buddhist Lunar calendar
After a great time at holy Gosainkund return journey to Dhunche headquarter town of Langtang area and Rasuwa district a long descend brings back at Sing Gompa and then continue walk downhill at the base of the hill through beautiful forest after crossing a bridge a short climb on the main road reaching at main Dhunche town for last overnight in the high mountains of Langtang Himal.
Last day of this memorable trip ending with an exciting drive down hill back to Kathmandu on taking the same route all the way, at Kathmandu transfer to respective hotels with farewell dinner in typical style.
