Langtang Valley & Holy Gosainkund with High Pass

A super and most scenic adventure to Langtang Valley & Holy Gosainkund with High Pass trekking around Central Himalayan, just North of Kathmandu in the backdrop of massive Ganesh-Langtang and Jugal Himal mountain range.

This wonderful trekking an ideal adventure holiday of moderate to adventurous walks with constant views of snowcapped mountains with never a dull moment, suitable for all types of people with less chances of getting AMS (Acute Mountain Sickness) with enough acclimatization days before heading higher altitude over East Laurabina or Gosainkund pass at 4,609 m nearly above 15,180 ft.

On this beautiful Langtang valley & Holy Gosainkund with High Pass, where you observe ancient Buddhist and Bon culture, custom of Tamang ethnic tribe in the harmony of pristine mountainscape.

Walk leads through enchanting alpine forest of rhododendron, magnolia, firs and pine trees where elusive Red Panda dwells.

This fabulous Langtang Valley & Holy Gosainkund starts with an overland drive towards Langtang area in Rasuwa district, within Langtang National Park the nearest park from Kathmandu.

This area extends 32 km (aerial distance) north of Kathmandu around Nepal – China (Tibet) border.

Langtang Valley & Holy Gosainkund trekking offers wide spectrum of vegetation type from subtropical forest (below 1000 m), temperate oak and pine forests at mid-elevation, with alpine scrub and grasses giving way to bare rocks and snow, oaks, chir pine, maple, fir, blue pine, hemlock, spruce and various species of rhododendron make up the main forest species.

Culturally a mixed area of mostly habited by Tamang ethnic groups and few Hyalmo of Helambu region, with strong Tibetan Buddhist culture which have influenced the natural environment over the centuries.

Around Langtang valley at Kyanjin Gompa with panorama of mountains from Ganesh Himal (7,405 m) Langtang Lirung (7,234 m)  Ghengu Liru (Langtang II – 6571m), Kimshun (6,745m) and Shalbachum (6,918m) to the south Chimsedang Lekh forms a ridge of peaks which includes Naya-Kanga (5,846m) and Gangchempo, Tilman’s beautiful Fluted Peak, extends beyond towards Jugal Himal, terminating in Dorje Lakpa (6,980m/22,929ft).

To the east the upper meadows of the Langtang end in a massive mountain wall, forming the frontier with Tibet.

From here our adventure leads towards holy Gosainkund Lake at 4,381 meters high a sacred area for both Hindu and Buddhist religions and then heading back to Kathmandu over high pass of Gosainkund through nice villages of Kutumsang-Gulbhanjyang to Sundarjal and a short drive back to Kathmandu after an awesome time around Langtang valley & Holy Gosainkund with High Pass trek.

Itinerary

On arrival in Kathmandu received by our staff and representative for a short drive to respective hotels in Kathmandu city, after refreshment our guide will brief regarding Langtang Valley & Holy Gosainkund trekking, hotels, lodge and necessary information required while you are with us in Nepal with welcome dinner.

Morning depart from the hotel for interesting sightseeing tour Kathmandu valley steeped with culture, historical monuments of temples, monasteries and stupas listed as World Heritage Sites, afternoon free preparation for Langtang Valley & Holy Gosainkund trek.

Morning an overland drive leading north of Kathmandu to reach Syabrubesi, passing towns and farm villages to Trisuli Bazaar with sub-tropical climate, from Trisuli Bazaar drive further climbs leaving warmer low region to cooler area, as the weather and culture changes.

On reaching Dhunche at 1,965m, a major town of Langtang area and Rasuwa district and the entrance of Langtang National Park. Drive continues downhill for two hours to Syabrubesi village for overnight stop.

Our first day walk from Syabrubesi leads uphill for a while but the rest of the walk is on gradual and winding trail through terraced farms and villages, as the trail descend to join a path of upper Syabru near Riverside.

From here another hour walks into dense forest to reach a small clearing at Lama Hotel for overnight stop.

From Lama Hotel morning walk leads into a river gorge following Trisuli River upstream, leading to a climb into rhododendron and oaks forest after few hours walk, arriving at Ghoretabla in the middle of the forest, after a pleasant stop walk continues for another few hours to Langtang village through forest and crossing streams and leaving tree line behind.

Walk gets better with few ups and down till Langtang Village is reached for overnight stop.

From Langtang village of Tamang and Bhotias tribe, morning walk leads on gradual path for a short while, then winds up for few hours encountering “mani-prayer wall” where walking clockwise direction is the right way, walk leads further east as the gorge opens up into a splendid valley with meadow and views of snow capped peaks at close distance.

After a good walk of 4 hours reaching at Kyanjin Gompa, a beautiful place with panorama of mountains and the closest peak Langtang Lirung at above 7,000m with icefall, here check in a nice cozy lodge, afternoon a leisure walk to a cheese factory established 20 years back by Swiss Technical and local support.

A rest day to enjoy and marvel the super views, an ideal spot for leisure hike to nearby hill Kyanjin Ri at 4,700m high or Tsego Ri which over 4,600 m this add more heights on this adventure with fabulous views of snowcapped peaks, visit the cheese factory closeby.

Morning catching last view of this wonderful surrounding and high snow capped mountains in amazing Langtang valley, then heading downhill for another adventure on route Kathmandu, walk leads to Lama Hotel after a long descend with few short ups in between the walks.

From Lama Hotel our journey leads to alternative route towards Upper Syabru also called as Thulo Syabru, morning walk a short downhill to Riverside and Bamboo area with small lodge, teahouses in the middles of rhododendron, oaks and bamboo forests, after short rest here walk continues leading uphill to the ridge of Upper Syabru passing few farm lands and a big landslide section and then to Thulo Syabru village where the traditional Tamang houses are linked together like a long locomotive with beautiful carved windows and doors, this village with 6-8 good lodges and a monastery above the village.

After this nice village walk leads to more climb through enchanting dense forest of lovely rhododendron, oaks and pine trees with views of Langtang and Ganesh Himal and as far towards west peaks of Manaslu and Annapurna Himalaya, although a steep climb but interesting walking into this beautiful forest where more than 10 varieties of rhododendron species exists around this thick woodlands, passing summer pasture and shades of cattle herders and then on the pleasant winding trail to Singh Gomba / Chandanbari village with cheese factory and an old monastery at the top of the village.

Trek today offers spectacular views of an array of snow peak range of Langtang to Ganesh-Himal range with Manaslu and Annapurna range, walk for an hour into woodland of oaks, pines and rhododendron, and then continue walk uphill leaving tree lines and vegetation behind for short rhododendron, juniper and alpine shrubs bushes.

Walk leads uphill passing through Laurabina and to holy Gosainkund where pilgrims visits for ritual holy bath in Gosainkund pond, believing it delivers path to paradise drink of its holy water relinquishes sins of a hundred lifetimes.

From Gosainkund with grand memories walk leads by the lake for a while and then climbing the over rocky moraine path to reach the higher side coming across two icy ponds Sarswati and Surya kund, the walk from here is gradual for while and then a climb towards the end of Gosainkund pass or Laurabina-la East ridge at 4,609 meters, the highest point of this adventure. From here a long descend to the base of this pass and reaching back to rich vegetation and woodlands, the walk is gradual and winding till Gopte Odar is reached for overnight stop.

After a nice stop here, walk continues in the forested area with gradual winding trail most of the way for a while, then reaching the Helambu area, with a short steep climb at Tharepati, probably for lunch stop. This spot offers tremendous views of Jugal-Manaslu-Ganesh and Langtang Himal mountain range.

From here walk leads to descend through lovely woodlands to reach at Kutumsang a nice Sherpa, Tamang and Hylmo village.

From Kutumsang morning starts with an easy pace on the long winding path most of the way with few ups, but its downhill all the way passing many farm lands and small farm village and cultivated terraces with amazing views along the way, then a short climb brings to Gul-Bhanjyang a Tamang tribe village.

After a nice time at Gul-Bhanjyang, morning walk lead towards south near to Kathmandu valley rim, trekking on gentle winding path most of the way through patch of forest and farm villages and downhill to Patti-Bhanjyang village this is full of Hindu people here in this village with wonderful scenery of surrounding green landscapes and distant snow capped peaks. From here an hour of steep climb brings to Chisopani, a small settlement with few lodge offering panorama of mountains from Annapurna, Manaslu and Ganesh towards far West and Langtang and Jugal towards North and as far to Numbur and Gauri-Shanker mountains towards East horizon.

After catching the morning stunning sunrise over the Himalayan peaks, the last day walk leads to long descend through beautiful forest with wonderful views through Tamang farm villages till Sundarijal village is reached. Located in the eastern valley rim of Kathmandu, from here an hour drive brings you back to Kathmandu.
