This fascinating destination to Annapurna Kopra Ridge & Khair Holy Lake trek starting from Pokhara, a picturesque place city and valley in the backdrop of high Annapurna Himalaya where it reflects on its pristine lakes.

Annapurna Kopra Ridge & Khair Holy Lake trek combines spectacular mountain scenery with cultural diversity and walking through traditional Gurung and Magar / Pun villages as the walk leads through enchanting woodland of rhododendron, pines, hemlock and fir trees.

Walking from warm lowland to cool alpine terrain at Ghorepani on old Trans Himalayan Caravan Trade Route of Nepal / Tibet, where the trade still continues till present at present beyond Upper Mustang.

An impressive morning hike to Pun Hill at 3,210 m high with fabulous views of snowcapped mountains of world 3 highest mountain range from Dhaulagiri, Annapurna to Manaslu with majestic peak of Machapuchare “Fish Tail” including stunning sunrise.

From here heading towards our main destination to Kopra Ridge and Khair Holy Lake leaving the main trekking trail to complete wilderness in the hidden areas of Annapurna

with tremendous views of Dhaulagiri and Annapurna at closest range and exploring the holy Khair lake fed from the glaciers of Vara-Shikar and Annapurna peaks, this place is busy in auspicious holy times with local pilgrims visiting to offer prayer and animal sacrifice to nature spirits.

After a marvelous time in the high ridges of Annapurna our return journey leads through interesting Ghandruk-Landruk village to conclude Kopra Ridge & Khair Holy Lake trekking at picturesque Pokhara, and then a drive back to Kathmandu, after great services of Foot and Shadow Walking Holiday Tours and its friendly guides and staff.

Our return journey, descending through lush terraced Modi River valley and finally concluding the adventure at Pokhara, a popular destination with serene Phewa Lake, in the backdrop of towering Annapurna, Dhaulagiri, Manaslu mountain range including Machapuchare (Fish-Tail).

Itinerary

On arrival in Kathmandu received by our staff and representative for a short drive to respective hotels in Kathmandu city, after refreshment our guide will brief regarding Annapurna & Ghorepani trekking, hotels, lodge and necessary information required while you are with us in Nepal with welcome dinner.

Morning depart from the hotel for interesting sightseeing tour Kathmandu valley steeped with culture, historical monuments of temples, monasteries and stupas listed as World Heritage Sites, afternoon free preparation for the Annapurna Ghorepani trek.

Early breakfasts, travel by air or Tourist Coach to Pokhara on scenic highway. This is an interesting drive through the foothills of the Himalaya. The road has been greatly improved in recent years, on arrival at Pokhara check into the Hotel by the lake Phewa for the overnight.

A short 2 hours drive after breakfast takes you up the newly built Chinese highway to Nayapul (new bridge) where we begin the (approx 3-4 hours) trek, in the beginning the trail passes through the busy areas where you will encounter all types of people from merchants, traders, local, trekkers and mule and donkey trains, as you come to Bhirethati village the trail splits into many ways, but we follow the main trail to the ancient Trans-Himalayan trade route, after crossing the newly built suspension bridge, after the bridge, entrance of the ACAP (Annapurna Conservation Area Project) here all the trekkers have to sign in, from here our trek follows the main trade route through many farm villages and waterfalls till Tirkhedhunga is reached for the overnight Camp. Approx. 4 hours walk.

From here the track winds up to a steep climb for 1 1/2 hrs on the paved stone steps unto Ulleri village, after Ulleri the trail winds up gradually passing through the cool rain forest for few hours with few ups and down, as the trek comes nearer to Ghorepani, you will be gaining altitude as you can feel the cool breeze and in the change of vegetation, as you walk in the midst of the rhododendron woods till Ghorepani village is reached for the overnight camp.

Early morning hike to Poon-Hill at 3,190m a fantastic hill top, offering awesome sunrise views and amazing sceneries of mountains from Mt. Dhaulagiri, Mt. Manaslu to Annapurna and as far to Ganesh Himal in the far eastern horizon with Mt. Machapuchare “The Fish Tail”,.

After an enjoyable time with views of stunning sunrise and array of mountains, walk continues from Ghorepani towards Sauta village, taking an off trail away from main trekking path, trek leads into beautiful rhododendron forest, and then heading down hill with last short climb to Sauta village for overnight stop.

Sauta a farm village situated in the midst of a lovely forest with rhododendron, magnolia and oaks tree lines with fabulous views of Mt. Dhaulagiri and Annapurna South.

Starting morning walk through farm fields and scattered villages, leading into lovely rhododendron and bamboo forest, then a climb into woodlands following the route to Khair ridge, with an uphill through meadow and summer pastures to Chistebung for overnight stop, a, a small place of few huts serving as tea-houses.

Morning walk for few hours leading to our destination at Kopra ridge, from here on gaining altitude after leaving the tree lines for short alpine bushes and shrubs, around this place chances of seeing some wildlife like Himalayan Thar, Danphe Pheasant (National Bird of Nepal).

2-3 hours of good climb brings at overnight stop at Kopra ridge, a scenic spot with amazing views of surrounding landscapes and Mt. Dhaulagiri massive range, Vara-Shikar (Annapurna Fang), Annapurna South which towers from this wonderful spot.

A great spot for rest day and excursion to holy Khair Lake located at 4,247 m. which is a long and tough hike and worth the views, a holy site with religious festival held annually around the month of August and September.

Villagers from surrounding area visit on pilgrimage to offer prayers and dip in the lake.

After a great time at Kopra ridge & holy Khair Lake, morning walk leads to a long descend through pasture lands in the midst of rhododendron forest, and then back into tree lines to our overnight stop at Dobato, a summer pasture a grazing land for the local Sheppard’s with striking views of Annapurna and
Mt. Machapuchare.

Today a moderate walk with downhill to Ghandruk village through forest, with views of snow capped mountains; a pleasant walk leads to Ghandruk village for overnight stop after walking past Tadapani village on the main trekking trail.

Ghandruk, largest Gurung villages around Annapurna region, the men folk of Ghandruk village have long tradition of supplying some of the finest soldiers in the Gorkha Regiment to both British and Indian armies.

After a nice time at Ghandruk village, morning walk leads downhill for an hour to Modi River, on crossing over a bridge with short climb reaching at Landruk village, from here on a pleasant winding trail through farm terraced and villages with an uphill walk for an hour to Deurali ridge at 2,150 m.

After Deurali on the downhill walk with views of Mt. Annapurna, Mt. Manaslu including Fish Tail peak all the way to Pothana village for last overnight in the high hills of Annapurna.

Morning catching super views of mountains as the walk leads to a short up through cool forest to Thulo Kharka also known as Australian Camp.

A wonderful place surrounded with alpine forest and views of Annapurna mountains from here an hour descend to Kande village, on the Baglung-Pokhara highway, from here an hour drive back to Pokhara after a wonderful time up in the high hills.

Morning after breakfast drive back to Kathmandu on an interesting and exciting highway through many farms, villages and towns and then drive leads to uphill to reach Kathmandu valley.

On reaching hotel, afternoon free for individual activities and shopping with farewell dinner in a typical Nepalese restaurant with culture / folk dance program to entertain with authentic Nepali meals.
